Music in My (H)ear(t)

🎤 SONJA WHITEHOUSE

Research has revealed that music holds the keys to your body’s pharmacy, and can promote or suppress the release of chemicals, also known as hormones, which in turn affects the way we feel and react. What we listen to therefore has a direct impact on our behavior.

As Christians, we believe that we are called to follow Jesus and emulate His character. Is it possible that the music we listen to can affect our characters for better or for worse? What are the messages that music and musicians convey with their songs and lives? Is lyrics the only deciding factor in evaluating good music? What about contemporary Christian music?

In Matthew 12:34, 35 Jesus says ‘For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of. A good man brings good things out of the good things stored up in him, and an evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in him.’

What are you storing up? What is in your (h)ear(t)?

Holy Sexuality: Untangling a Complex Conversation

🎤 PASTOR SHANE HARPER

Numerous Christians misconstrue spiritual warfare often narrowing it down to confrontations with demonic entities. While such encounters do occur, this workshop addresses how the core essence of spiritual warfare transcends power struggles; it revolves around clashes of truth. It’s essentially a battle of ideas; a battle for the mind.

The apostle Paul articulates this concept, stating, “We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ” (2 Cor. 10:4-5). The battleground, as highlighted, resides in the realm of “opinions”, “knowledge of God”, “arguments”, and “thoughts”. For Christians, the primary tool in this warfare is truth. To effectively “stand against the schemes of the devil”, we are urged to “put on the whole armor of God”, commencing with “the belt of truth” (Eph. 6:11, 14).

Part 1: In His Image: A testimony of identity, grace, and redemption.

Part 2: Dangerous Affirmation: How do we remain faithful disciples of Jesus Christ in the midst of cultural and religious chaos?

The Battle is for the Mind

🎤 SIS. RENEE AND BRO. JAYDEN TIMMINS

The great battle is for our mind. How should we guard it? Do media and music really influence our decisions? Has pop culture entertained and hypnotised our minds? Are there hidden messages.

Media and music shape our identity, the way we think and view the world. It's time to optimize the restoration of a healthy mind, body and soul through God's truth.
"All should guard the senses, lest Satan gain victory over them; for these are the avenues of the soul." AH 401:2

Subtle Deception

🎤 SIS. RENEE AND BRO. JAYDEN TIMMINS

Yoga, mindfulness, martial arts and Chinese traditional medicines have made their way into western culture, fitness and sporting activities, workplaces, learning centres, and even our church.

Are they forms of exercise, alternative medicine and relaxation or are they eastern spiritual disciplines?

With countless martial art studios and yoga classes in every city and town, are these eastern spiritual disciplines suitable for Christians to participate in?

Healing from Brokenness

🎤 SIS. MARGARET FLETCHER

Twelve years ago, Margaret's faith in God was virtually nonexistent. She had suffered many deep losses in her life and was now crippled with an incurable autoimmune disease.

Why would God allow this suffering? Was there hope for her condition?

In her journey from brokenness and pain, to healing and wholeness, she discovered more than physical healing and a God who offers us a full armour of protection no matter what our life experiences are.

In this workshop, we will unpack the key principles in the process she went through to armour ourselves with the truth which sets us free.
